SARAH HINMAN

My musical journey began at the age of five, when I fell in love with the Irish Folk Harp. My parents agreed I could learn the harp with one condition: That I learn the piano first. Once I reached an advanced level, I could begin the harp.

I started learning the piano when I was six, and by the time I turned ten, I was playing four other instruments besides the piano. That summer, I finally reached my goal: advanced music in piano. I was given my first Folk Harp and began to learn how to play it.

Throughout my teenage years, I learned other instruments through Cascade Academy of Music and Arts and acted as choir pianist for many other co-ops and choirs. I have participated in multiple music competitions, both for the Academy and private lessons.

I’ve played for several events, including weddings both in and out of state, as well as galas, teas, and social events. Through my experiences, I’ve learned how to be flexible in teaching styles and program changes.

At fifteen years old, I began teaching as a student teacher through Cascade Academy of Music and Arts, and quickly discovered how much I enjoyed doing so. I’ve taught over thirty students in my building career and enjoyed each and every experience.

Now, I play piano for services at my home church and share the responsibility of choir pianist with another talented young woman. I teach a class at Cascade Academy of Music and Arts, and private lessons as well.

When I’m not playing music, I can be found with my nose in a book, gardening, painting, or drawing.
